Mark’s background is in investing, philanthropy and public policy–connecting good ideas with the resources they need to thrive. He is a co-founder of Centerbridge Partners, an investment firm with over $30 billion of assets under management that deploys capital in private equity, real estate, and credit investing, from which he retired in 2020. Previously, his 35-year career in investing and finance included serving as global head of private equity at The Blackstone Group.
Mark’s experience also includes several turns in public service. He served on President Obama’s Council on Jobs and Competitiveness from 2010 to 2012, and on the President’s Economic Recovery Advisory Board from 2008 to 2010. Most recently, he served at the U.S. State Department as an expert senior advisor to Special Presidential Envoy for Climate John Kerry, where he worked on engaging the private sector and financial institutions around climate action. He earned his Bachelor of Arts from the University of Notre Dame and his Master of Business Administration from Columbia University. Mark serves as vice chair of the Board of Trustees at Columbia University and on the Board of Advisors at the Columbia Climate School.
