Johannes M. (Hans) Bos is a senior vice president and program director in AIR’s International Development, Evaluation, and Research (IDER) program. Dr. Bos is a nationally recognized expert in the conduct of randomized control trials in education and other areas of social policy research. Since 1992 he has conducted numerous evaluations and policy studies in education, child development, welfare reform, and labor policy.
Among the programs Dr. Bos has studied are those providing job training for economically disadvantaged youth, those supporting teen parents and their children, and those supporting high school to college transitions for low-income high school students. In recent years, his work has also included evaluation of health reform programs, literacy programs in middle and lower-income countries, and programs to improve the process of teacher recruitment, hiring, and induction.
At AIR, Dr. Bos is responsible for quality assurance and project review procedures. He also serves as principal investigator on several ongoing research and evaluation studies. Dr. Bos earned his Ph.D. at New York University’s Robert F. Wagner School of Public Service, where he also taught statistics, financial management, and program evaluation. He has published in Evaluation Review, the Journal of Human Resources, and Child Development. Dr. Bos serves as an external peer reviewer for the U.S. Department of Education’s Institute of Education Sciences’ Standards and Review Office.
